In September 1984 the Rev. George Margerum and Maria English started what has become a very special ministry - distribution of food to parishioners and non-parishioners who are in need of temporary assitance.
Since 1992, the task of collecting and distributing the food has been handled by the Food Committee which is part of the Deacon's Committee. And despite the fact that most parishioners hear about this only at Thanksgiving and Christmas, it is an on-going project all year long.
From October through December, we collect food and money and then prepare foodbaskets for distribution at Thanksgiving and Christmas. However, during the balance of the year, a portion of the canned food collected from parishioners is donated to the Food Cupboard while, at the same time, the balance is used by the Committee to prepare frozen dinners for distribution to individuals and families in the parish who need temporary assistance.
We have a number of suggestions for parishioners on how you can help us in this special ministry.
If you know of individuals or families who are in need of food, please notify the Rector or the Church secretary.
If you know of individuals or families who need foodbaskets at Thanksgiving or Christmas, please give us their names and also let us know if there are any children in the family so that we can include special items for them.
When you are doing your weekly food shopping, please consider purchasing items where you buy one and get one free. Then donate the free item to the Food Committee.
If you'd like to donate money, please make your check payable to All Saints' Episcopal Church and note it for the Food Committee.
And, finally, if you'd like to participate in the food collection, preparation and distribution program and be an active member of the Food Committee, please contact the church office.
